Is LUCK a factor in SUCCESS?

Written Sajeev Nair, Nov 23rd, 2010

There was one young man working in a Fertilizers and Chemicals company in Tamil Nadu. He was a Diploma holder in Mechanical Engineering. The company was in total loss and the management had no idea what to do. That was the time this young man came up with a new business idea. He presented his idea to the management. Though the management liked the idea, they had no money to invest. Hence they advised him to use their plant and work on the new idea. As he hadn’t got any money, he included another 7 people and started a company to manufacture the new product. They started manufacturing the product and over a period of two years that product started getting established in the market. In fact the product was a Mosquito Mat. That was the time when one big company took over the largest selling Mosquito Mat brand. In order to avoid competition, the large company decided to buy out our friend’s brand too. In return he received an amount of Rs.28 crores. How will you consider this? Luck?

Have you heard this phrase, ‘luck favours the prepared mind.’ Opportunities come and knock at every body’s door once in while. Only very few recognize that this is an opportunity…out of them only very few realize that this is an opportunity for him….out of them very few have a dreams in their mind…out of them very few believes that through this opportunity he could fulfil his dreams….and very few are willing to take that pain to achieve their dreams….out of them only very few consistently persist while lot of people try to pull them down. Those are the people who make history in the world…those are the people who create success stories. Where is the role of Luck here. Yes in the above story of the young man, luck favoured him when he got a brilliant idea and when the company asked him to develop the product by himself using their facility…luck favoured him when he got some investors with him….luck favoured him when that big company came and bought over his brand for Rs.28 crore. But the key factor is he was having a prepared mind. He was unselfish and ready to contribute to the company in which he was working, as he was willing to share the new product idea with the company. When he got an opportunity to manage the product he had the guts to do it. He was ready to take the pain.

Luck is not in winning a lottery. Whoever has made any money through lottery, they couldn’t enjoy the fruits of it and also that money never lasted. Why is it so?…..I have no idea. But I think that is nature’s law. To get something, you need to give. You can reap only after you sow.

To be in the right place at the right time with the right people is luck. When Bill gates was asked the question, “what is the secret behind your success?”, he said “I was in the right business in the right time, I had a vision and I put in massive action.” Here, to be in the right business at the right time could be considered as luck; but your success is based on the other two factors too; ie. Whether you have a vision and are you willing to put in massive action.

When your mind is totally prepared, when your mind knows where you are going, then you will reach the right place at the right time. Right kind of people will come in front of you and you will see your dreams getting realised. Hence always have an open mind to everything, especially to new ideas. When ever you meet a person accidentally and again keeping on meeting him at many other locations, understand that you are being hit with some signals. I am a strong believer that in this universe nothing happens ‘just like that.’ There is always a reason behind each and everything happening in this universe. Always be open and receptive to the signals from the universe.
